Von Björn, der viel Aufwand betreiben musste, um die wegen heftiger Regenfälle notwendige Umleitung in`s Suyan Camp und den Road Transport zurück nach Kilimanjaro (weil auch die Flüge vom Air Strip nicht möglich waren) für uns zu organisieren, will ich gar nicht erst reden. Er macht das alles ganz großartig, und wir wünschen ihm, dass sein Business auch in Zukunft blühen und gedeihen möge. Karatu, "Plantation Lodge"
Hier fällt mir wirklich nur die Formulierung 'perfekt' ein: die Atmosphäre, die Suiten, der Service, das Essen, die Ruhe und vor allem die Betreuung durch Björn und Renate - das einzige, was ich bereut habe war, dass ich nicht noch ein paar Tage länger auf der Lodge eingeplant habe - aber das kann man ja beim nächsten Mal berücksichtigen! Der Chef-Gärtner zeigte mir bei einem langen Rundgang den herrlichen Garten und die Plantage (da ich ein grosser Blumen- bzw. Pflanzenfan bin, war das natürlich ein wirkliches Highlight).
Serengeti, Loliondo Area "Suyan Camp"
Für mich das Abenteuer schlechthin: einzige Frau unter 15 Männern (ich war während der Tage der einzige Gast im Camp) - Gewitter, Regen, lausige Kälte, Hitze aber unvergesslich! Fernab jedweder Zivilisation die Natur pur erleben und von Gian, dem jungen Manager des Camps, James - meinem Guide von Renaissance und den Masai-Guides erklärt zu bekommen. Ich habe während dieser Tage so viel gelernt, meine (bisher nicht so sehr ausgeprägte) sportliche Ader wieder entdeckt, Barfuss-Bushwalks gemacht, bin auf Felsen herumgeklettert und weiss jetzt auch, wie man im Schlamm stecken gebliebene Jeeps am effektivsten wieder frei bekommt. … Bei einem unserer Game Drives hatten wir die Gelegenheit, die seltenen African Hunting Dogs zu beobachten - unvergesslich!
Ich habe sehr schweren Herzens vom Suyan-Camp und dem Team Abschied genommen - es gäbe dort noch so viel zu entdecken!
Rückfahrt über den Ngorongoro-Krater - James, mein Guide und ich waren morgens um 06.00 h bei der Abfahrt vom Suyan-Camp nicht so sicher, ober wir wegen der Regenfälle der letzten Tage die Hauptverbindungsstrasse in die Ngorongoro Conservation Area überhaupt erreichen können aber nach rund 6 Stunden hatten wir es geschafft! Auf der Fahrt die unendlichen Plains mit einer fast überirdischen Lichtstimmung (schwarze Wolken, dazwischen Sonnenschein). Wir fuhren durch tausende von Gnus, Zebras - es war wirklich unbeschreiblich schön!
Mein persönliches Fazit zu den beiden Camps: Nie wieder in eine Lodge - in diesen 'Tented Camps' ist man wesentlich näher an der Natur!
Zanzibar "Matemwe Bungalows"
Schon wieder ein Superlativ: eine wunderschöne Anlage mit paradiesischem Garten, in jeder Hinsicht perfekt!
Genau richtig, um nach der doch ein wenig anstrengenden Reise zu entspannen! Die Bandas sind sehr hübsch eingerichtet und bieten - da sie vor Blicken abgeschirmt und nur zum Meer hin offen sind - eine sehr persönliche Atmosphäre. Ich habe die Abende auf 'meiner' Terrasse direkt über dem Meer sehr genossen und ein paar Mal draussen in der Hängematte geschlafen mit der Geräuschkulisse der Brandung unten.

Rovos Rail was quite wonderful and we were spoiled from beginning to end. Though we thought the first day or two that 2 weeks might be too long but we promptly settled in to a very relaxing and informative journey. The historian who travelled with us was so approachable and interesting. Also Rohan Vos was with the train most of the trip and then his wife the last few days. They went through the dining cars each day to chat with everyone and keep us informed of the daily progress. The staff were excellent, food portions perfect for the inactivity level and the off train excursions were wonderful. To be recommended!”
